WHO WE ARE

Needy Support Centre is a community based organisation made up of concerned and visionary commuinty members who wish to play a significant role in supporting, educating and empowering the needy people in society. Our programs revolve around the themes of education, economic empowerment and community care.

WHO WE SERVE

Needy Support Centre supports needy persons in Nakawa Division of Kampala, Uganda. The organisation recognizes needy people as orphans, widows, persons living with HIV/AIDS, the disabled and elderly, single mothers, and people living in extreme poverty.

VISION

Needy Support Centre envisions a society that can fight, resist, and overcome poverty and any form of misery.

OUR STORY

Over the last thirty years, the northern region of Uganda experienced periods of unrest and civil war. During times of conflict, people from the north migrated to the capital city, Kampala, to escape the violence and find a better life. Many of these people came to settle in Nakawa Division with little money or job skills. Although there is now peace in Uganda, people have continued to settle in Nakawa, coming from Uganda's rural areas, particularly the northern region. The community has been characterised as disadvantaged by high rates of poverty and HIV/AIDS.

It was from this community that Needy Support Centre was created. Seven passionate community members began meeting under a tree to discuss the problems their community faced. They formed Needy Support Centre in 2004 as a community based organisation that works to empower needy people with education, economic and social support. Needy Support Centre has since grown to 300 members and has moved from under a tree to a proper office.
